WHAT WE DO
Bedazzle performing arts is the ‘catch-all’ title for all our courses, events and groups. Our core disciplines are acting, singing and dancing, but this also includes almost all the disciplines within the performing arts field. Many of our shows are devised by our students and we take them on the journey from concept, through scripting, stage craft, recording and production right through to public performance. Our aims are to:
IMPROVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS
These are key skills that stay with our students for life whatever paths they choose to follow. Feedback from parents and teachers proves that our teaching methods work; students showing marked improvements in all their regular school and college work. Here is a rundown of our regular courses, please visit our NEWS section for our latest events and LOCATIONS section for a list of our venues and timetables. Our course fees vary, for example, our 1-hour Theatre School course for age 6-11 start at £40 per term, our most comprehensive Saturday Theatre Company course is just £198 per term. Please CONTACT US anytime for full details.
A weekend 3-hour course for ages 8 to 16. We work towards a performance or event each term with an annual theatre production at a National venue. The group also participates in our annual Bedazzle Variety show in aid of our charity BEDAZZLE PROJECTS. As well as singing, dancing and acting, LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art) tuition is part of the course with the option of taking their prestigious exams.
These courses run after school at various locations across the region, please go to LOCATIONS for details. Aimed at age 5 to 11. The course includes singing, dancing and acting with an annual performance on a professional theatre stage. We also include occasional film projects and sound recording. Some of our courses run shorter terms during summer to avoid clashing with other school activities and exams and at these schools we offer an optional extra 4 sessions ‘Funky-Fit’ – a dance/exercise course that is filmed and students take home a DVD to encourage exercise at home! Theatre School is Usually 90-minutes duration, some are just 60-minutes. LAMDA tuition and optional exam entry is included. The courses are £40, £60 or £90 dependent on duration/region.
Similar to our Theatre Schools, these are 2-hours duration for age 7 up. It’s aimed at those who may have progressed from a year or two at Theatre School or who are older as the course is more demanding and the LAMDA tuition at a higher level. We encourage students to try a free ‘taster’ session before commiting to join. As with all our courses, students showing the right aptitude can audition for our Casting Agency. The course fee is £130 per term.
Our dance company is an advanced course run as a professional dance troupe. We cover most dance genres including formal ballet and the group has many professional performance opportunities during the year. It’s 1-hour after school/college at £60 per term.
4th WALL THEATRE CO.
Many of our students stay with us & as they progress through our theatre courses, they actively seek more challenging performing arts experiences. Our Theatre Co. students over 14 are invited to join our advanced ‘4thWall Theatre’ course. The group meets oneevening each week.Sessions run during Autumn & Spring terms, leaving students time to study and take their critical GCSE exams in the Summer. We take our students on the complete journey from concept to final performance, at a professional theatre, often in London’s West-End. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas. Most students opt to take higher grade LAMDA exams (adding UCAS points for University entry). The course fee is £195 per term (two terms per academic year).
In May 2006, our ‘all inclusive’ policy attracted the attention of Cambridgeshire-Mencap who invited us to lead a new theatre course for a learning difficulties group. The initiative was an instant success and since then we have opened other theatre arts courses across the region. In addition to acting, singing and dancing, the 3-hour courses also include an arts and crafts session – a comprehensive programme to develop dexterity, coordination and perception as well as exercises in colour, texture, geometry, perspective and other key drawing/painting skills. The sessions have an important social aspect too as students can relax a little and socialise with others. When approaching show-time, these sessions along with their performing disciplines come together; creating props, costume accessories and backdrops. All our Theatre Arts students are invited to enter the prestigious LAMDA exams, usually the Group Musical Theatre categories. (We also offer 2-hour courses that do not include art & craft sessions).
A two-day theatre arts event culminating with a short performance. Our students stay at a 4-star hotel with full-board and accompanied by a parent (we have activities for them too, including use of the hotel leisure centre whilst the students attend the workshop). The first day ends with our annual awards dinner followed by a disco. Day two culminates with a performance and display of their art.
As well as our annual POP SCHOOLS (see NEWS section), we also offer Theatre Workshops, often by invitation by a school, college or care groups and working with them to establish the content and course length.
Another initiative that’s grown in popularity and now has almost become a brand of its own, Funky-Fit started a few years ago as a summer holiday dance workshop, it has since developed into a Dance/Exercise programme for all ages and abilities. As with all our courses, we can offer a flexible working arrangement; usually we will organise a five-day workshop, but we have also run it as a weekly 90-minute to 2-hour course. Students receive a working DVD of their routines so they can continue to exercise and have fun at home. The cost varies from £150 for a 5-day workshop to as little as £5 per session. Contact us for details of this bespoke course.
For students who wish to be considered for professional work, they have the option of joining our Casting Agency. We have had some notable successes with placements in theatre shows such as 'The Sound Of Music', 'Matilda' and TV sows such as 'EastEnders'. students over the age of 16 can go on to join our adult Casting Agency.
